Rising NSW Sprint Star Ollie Moclair Sinks A Cam McEvoy Record Twice In One Day
Rising NSW sprint star Ollie Moclair has sunk another Cam McEvoy mark not once but twice in one day as he continues his climb up the Australian 50m freestyle ranks.
Moclair, who flirted with the World Junior long course record earlier in the year, clocked a time of 21.08 in a club relay lead off at the Speedo NSW Senior State Short Course Championships.
The time broke McEvoy’s long-standing National 18 years Age record for the second time on the same day.
Moclair fired off the 21.08 after winning the individual 50m title in 21.12 earlier in the session – which broke McEvoy’s time of 21.36 set back in 2012 – the times coming a week before he turns 19 on August 31.
The flying Sydney teenager, who started his career with Cranbrook Swimming under highly regarded head coach Rebecca Wheatley, made the World Junior Long Course Championship team last year where he swam 22.11 as a 17-year-old.
After moving his training regime under coach Tom Sunter to Sydney Olympic Park, Moclair is now training at the recently refurbished, multi-million-dollar, iconic North Sydney Olympic Pool after Sunter’s appointment as the new Head Coach.
With Moclair set to represent North Sydney at the up-coming SwimAus Sprints and Australian Short Course Championships at the SOPAC from September 29-October 2.
The meet will double as the selection trials for the 2026 World Aquatics Short Course Championships in Beijing from December 1-6.
Moclair has re-written the 50m freestyle age group record books along the way, flirting with the boys’ 50m freestyle world junior long course record, ripping a 21.73 in the heats of this year’s Australian Age.
The time lowering his own boys’ 18 years National age record of 22.04, set last December at the NSW State Age Championships – returning to win the final in a slightly lower time of 21.89.
And if it was not for the technicality of Moclair’s birthday, he would have set a world-best time.
World Aquatics Junior World Records eligibility state that the athlete must be 18 years old on December 31 of the year the swim occurs.
