Army West Point Lands First 2028 Verbal From IMer Mia Jones
NEW COMMIT: The United States Military Academy at West Point has secured its first verbal commitment for the 2028-29 season and beyond from Mia Jones of Lexington, Ky. Jones is a Junior National qualifier who excels in butterfly, breaststroke and IM.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I’m so honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the United States Military Academy at West Point! I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for their continuous support. I would also like to thank Coach Scott, Coach Noah, and the rest of the Army coaching staff for this wonderful opportunity! GO ARMY BEAT NAVY!!”
Jones, who trains year-round with Kentucky Aquatics, most recently competed at NCSA Summer Championships where she placed seventh in the 200m IM, eighth in the 200m fly, and 14th in both the 100m fly and 400m IM. She raced three events at Juniors East in December before going on to place fifth in the 200 IM at Cary Sectionals in March. She also had six top-6 finishes at the Kentucky 13&O Championships in March.
Her best times include:
- 200 IM – 2:01.19
- 400 IM – 4:19.55
- 100 fly – 55.98
- 200 fly – 2:03.88
- 100 breast – 1:03.85
- 200 breast – 2:18.44
Currently a junior at Lexington Catholic High School, Jones earned silver in the 200 IM and bronze in the 100 breast at the 2026 Kentucky State Championships. She placed second and fourth, respectively, in those events at the state meet during her rookie year in 2025.
Jones’ best time in the 400 IM would’ve ranked first by four seconds on Army’s roster last year. Her top 200 IM time would’ve ranked third on the Black Knight’s lineup last season.
The Black Knights are coming off a second-place finish at the 2026 Patriot League Championships where they produced seven All-Patriot League selections and the Women’s Swimmer of the Meet in Angie McKane. Army set seven program records and six meet records at the conference championship.
