Siena Hires Morgan Soulia as Head Coach
Siena University on Monday named Morgan Soulia as the head coach of the women’s swimming and diving team and aquatics coordinator.
Soulia arrives after serving as the head coach of Division III Chatham University. She replaces Maggie Davenport, who left to become an assistant coach at Florida Gulf Coast.
“I’m incredibly excited and grateful for the opportunity to join the Siena family and lead the Swim & Dive program,” Soulia said in a press release. “Siena’s commitment to academic excellence, student athlete development, and community immediately stood out to me. I’m looking forward to building on the strong foundation of this program while creating an environment where our student athletes are challenged to grow as athletes, teammates, leaders, and people. I’m excited to build meaningful relationships with our team and the Siena community while helping our student athletes reach their full potential. I can’t wait to get on deck! #MarchOn!”
Solia oversaw all aspects of the program at Chatham, from training and technical development to recruiting and fundraising strategy. At Siena, her aquatics coordinator role will include facility operations and community programming. A certified USA Swimming Coach, she also holds American Red Cross certifications in lifeguarding, CPR/AED/First Aid and water safety instruction.
“Morgan stood out throughout the search process because of the depth of her experience and her commitment to developing the whole student-athlete,” Siena Assistant Vice President/Deputy Director of Athletics of External Relations and Senior Woman Administrator Lori Anctil said. “She understands what it takes to build a successful program, but just as importantly, she understands the importance of relationships, accountability, communication, and creating an environment where student-athletes can thrive. Her experience as both a Division I student-athlete and collegiate coach gives her a unique perspective that will serve our Saints extremely well.”
Soulia was a four-year swimmer at the University of Richmond, winning an Atlantic 10 title in the 200 individual medley and earning an NCAA B cut. She also played water polo in high school. She received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and master’s degrees in special education from Point Park University and secondary education from Grand Canyon University. She also coached the varsity team at Chartiers Valley High School in Pennsylvania before heading to Chatham.
