Junior National Silver Medalist Brenley Bonez Selects Alabama For 2028

NEW COMMIT: The University of Alabama has scored a new verbal commitment for Fall 2028 from Brenley Bonez of Chesterton, Ind. Bonez is a Junior National qualifier who excels in breaststroke and sprint freestyle.

She will join Paige Kowal and Claire Burns in Tuscaloosa as a member of the Crimson Tide’s Class of 2032.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Alabama! I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait to be part of such an amazing program. First, I want to thank all my family, especially my parents and sister, for always supporting me and making this journey possible. Thank you to all my teammates for making this sport more than just swim. To Coach Jenni, Coach Jim and Coach Wagner, thank you for constantly pushing me, believing in me, and giving me your full support. A special thanks to Coach Margo, Coach Ryan, my future teammates, and the rest of the Alabama coaching staff for making this my next home. Can’t wait to start this next chapter! ROLL TIDE!!!🐘❤️”

Bonez, who does her club swimming with Duneland Swim Club, earned silver in the 100m breast at Junior Nationals this past summer where she also took eighth in the 50m breast and 10th in the 200m breast. Last winter, she placed 17th in the 100 breast at Juniors East before going on to win the 50 breast and finish as runner-up in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 50 free at Indiana Short Course Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 50 breast – 28.29
  • 100 breast – 1:00.85
  • 200 breast – 2:15.22
  • 50 free – 23.01
  • 100 free – 50.89

Currently a junior at Chesterton High School, Bonez finished third in the 100 breast and fourth in the 50 free at the 2026 Indiana State Championships. The NISCA All-American finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in those events at the state meet as a freshman in 2025.

Alabama finished fourth at the 2026 Southeastern Conference Championships and 11th at the 2026 NCAA Championships.

Bonez’s best time in the 100 breast would’ve ranked third on Bama’s roster last year, and it would’ve placed in the C-final at the conference meet.
