The World Archery Executive Board held an online meeting on Friday 14 August to review the International Olympic Committee Executive Board’s decision of 7 July 2026, which confirmed that its previous recommendations restricting the participation of Russian athletes were no longer applicable.
The Executive Board subsequently lifted the restrictions on Russian athletes, teams, and officials taking part in events sanctioned directly by World Archery.
Russian athletes and teams may now compete under their national identity at these events, which include the Archery World Cup and World Championships. The restrictions introduced in 2022 on the use of the Russian flag and anthem have also been removed, in line with the decision on Belarus in May.
The return to competition of Russian athletes remains subject to the standard entry, eligibility, and anti-doping requirements set out in the World Archery Constitution and Rules, as well as host-country requirements, applicable national laws, visa restrictions, and instructions from public authorities.
The decision applies to events sanctioned directly by World Archery. Participation in competitions governed by World Archery Europe remains under the authority of the continental federation, and World Archery will continue its dialogue with World Archery Europe on implementation.
