U.S. National Junior Teamer Violet Rutter Lends 2028 Verbal to Wisconsin

NEW COMMIT: The University of Wisconsin has scored a new verbal commitment for Fall 2028 from Violet Rutter of Los Gatos, Calif. Rutter is a member of the 2026-27 U.S. National Junior Team for open water.

She will join Addy Koenig-Song in Madison as a member of the Badgers’ Class of 2032.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison! I would like to thank you my parents and my sisters for always believing in me and pushing me to be the best version of myself, Coach Kevin for knowing me better than I know myself, Coach Joey for being my hypeman, and everybody who has supported me throughout this journey. (Thank you Tere!) I would also like to thank Coaches Jack, Ted, Jennah, Johno, and Beata for providing me with this amazing opportunity. Go Badgers!”

Rutter, who trains year-round with Santa Clara Swim Club, most recently competed at Junior Nationals where she placed fourth in the 400m free and 10th in the 200m free. That was after she took 22nd in the 1500m free and 26th in the 800m free at USA Swimming Nationals.

Last winter, Rutter earned four best times at Juniors West before going on to record six top-6 finishes at Roseville Speedo Sectionals, highlighted by a gold medal in the 1000 free.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:48.83
  • 500 free – 4:52.33
  • 1000 free – 9:54.88
  • 1650 free – 16:45.38
  • 200 fly – 2:02.02

Currently a junior at Archbishop Mitty High School, Rutter placed fourth in the 200 free and 10th in the 500 free at the 2026 CIF State Championships. She has earned NISCA All-American honors.

Wisconsin finished fourth at the 2026 Big Ten Championships and 13th at the 2026 NCAA Championships. Rutter would’ve placed in the top-20 of the mile at last year’s conference meet.
