Santa Clara Swim Club Sets NAG Record in Boys’ 15-18 200 Freestyle Relay
During time trials on Wednesday at the United States Junior National Championships, Santa Clara Swim Club set a National Age Group (NAG) record in the 200-meter freestyle relay for the 15-18 classification. Racing at the William Woollett Aquatics Center, the foursome of Aiden Zhou, Tanay Gupta, Braydon Fong and Isaac Litwiller recorded a time of 1:30.23. That effort bettered the previous record of 1:31.09, set in 2023 by Lakeside Aquatic Club.
Zhou led off in 23.34 and was followed by Gupta, who checked in with a split of 22.40. Fong covered the third lap in 22.20 and set the stage for Litwiller to close the relay in 22.29. Not only did Santa Clara take nearly a second off the previous standard in the 15-18 age group, it broke the record of a Lakeside team that included Maximus Williamson (Virginia) and Cooper Lucas (Texas).
Zhou is not a stranger to NAG records. In 2023, he helped Santa Clara set four mixed-relay records in the 13-14 age group.
The Woollett Aquatics Center is in the middle of hosting three consecutive major competitions. Last week, the U.S. Nationals were held at the facility in Irvine, California, with Junior Nationals this week. Next week, some of the best swimmers in the world will descend on the venue for the Pan Pacific Championships, being held for the first time since 2018.
