Knicks’ Jalen Brunson eliminated in first round of 2024 Three-Point Competition

by

Knicks point guard Jalen Brunson was eliminated in the first round of the Three-Point Competition as part of the 2024 NBA All-Star weekend on Saturday night in Indiana.

Brunson put up 24 points during his turn, just two shy of advancing during his first career appearance at the NBA Skills Competition.

The star point guard started out a little cold, missing five of his first six shots over his first two racks, before he finally started settling into a groove.

Brunson drilled the money ball on the second rack, before advancing to the top of the key, where he knocked down six consecutive shots to give himself a chance. He had 20 points heading into his final rack, but missed his final shot of the night to ultimately be eliminated.

It was a valiant effort, but the Villanova product fell just short.

Brunson is the ninth player in franchise history to compete in the three-point contest, and he performed better than teammate Julius Randle, who was eliminated in the first round last year. The others include Steve Novak (2013), Danilo Gallinari (2010), Quentin Richardson (2006), Allan Houston (2001), Charlie Ward (1998), Hubert Davis (1996), and Trent Tucker (1988, 1986).

He’ll still have a chance to shine on the brightest stage when he participates in the All-Star Game on Sunday night.
