Psych Sheets Released for Second Leg of World Cup Tour; Marrit Steenbergen and Egor Kornev Return
The second leg of the World Aquatics World Cup will be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from Thursday through Saturday, with the Netherlands’ Marrit Steenbergen and Russia’s Egor Kornev headlining the competition. The short-course meet marks the second stop along the Silk Road and will serve as a tuneup for the World Short Course Championships, which are scheduled for Beijing in early December.
Steenbergen carried the momentum she generated during the summer into the first stop of the series, as she won multiple events in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Dutch star will once again embrace a multi-event schedule, as she is slated to contest the 50 backstroke, 50 freestyle, 100 individual medley, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley. Steenbergen is the world-record holder in the long-course version of the 100 freestyle and has set herself up top chase several World Cup sweeps, which would land a lucrative payout at the tour’s conclusion.
Kornev is coming off a stellar showing during the opening leg, which was highlighted by his world-record tying performance in the 100 freestyle. Kornev clocked a time of 44.84 over four laps, an effort that matched the time produced by Australian star Kyle Chalmers during the 2021 World Cup. Additionally, Kornev became the third-fastest performer in history in the 50 butterfly, going 21.64 for the Baku title.
