Over the past few years, Romania’s David Popovici has proven himself as one of the premier swimmers in the world, claiming an Olympic title in the 200-meter freestyle while doubling in the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle at last year’s World Championships in Singapore. But Popovici isn’t just a dominant athlete in the pool. In the latest edition of Poolside Passport, Popovici opens up about his love for cars, and dedication to family…among other things.

What I’d love to do after swimming competitively must have something to do with cars. I want to be either a really good mechanic or car restorer…or both. I love cars.

When I was young, I used to think I was really good at badminton. Now, I think it was just my dad letting me win from time to time.

I love dangerous modes of transportation. I have fast cars and there’s few things I enjoy more than taking one on a spirited drive on a twisty road on an early Sunday morning.

Who Would You Switch Lives With For a Day?
I would switch lives with my dog. I’m really curious to see how it is to only eat, sleep, get taken on walks, play and be loved unconditionally. (Not that I wouldn’t be loved unconditionally by my family. I love them).
