Florida Adds 2027 Verbal From World Junior Record Holder Malte Gräfe
NEW COMMIT: The University of Florida has secured a new verbal commitment for the 2027-28 season and beyond from breaststroker Jan Malte Gräfe of Potsdam, Germany. He is the World Junior record holder in the 50m breast.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“Beyond blessed and excited to announce that I have verbally committed to the University of Florida! I want to thank my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue chasing my dreams at the next level. The work doesn’t stop here. Go Gators!”
Gräfe represents Germany on the international stage, having most recently placed 12th in the 50m breast at the 2026 European Championships. He trains year-round with Potsdamer SV.
Last summer, he placed third in the 50m breast and fourth in the 100m breast at the European Junior Championships before taking second and fifth, respectively, in those events at the World Junior Championships. His time of 26.95 in the 50m breast during prelims at World Juniors set a new World Junior record.
In LCM, his best times include:
- 50m breast – 26.95 (23.37)
- 100m breast – 1:00.21 (52.44)
- 200m breast – 2:12.98 (1:56.19)
In SCY, those times convert to:
- 50 breast – 23.37
- 100 breast – 52.44
- 200 breast – 1:56.19
The Gators placed second at the 2026 Southeastern Conference Championships and the 2026 NCAA Championships, finished as runner-up to Texas at both meets.
Gräfe’s best time (converted to yards) in the 100 breast is already fast enough to score in the B-final at the SEC Championships, while is 200 breast time would’ve placed in the C-final.
