UVA Cavaliers Get 2028 Verbal From Junior National Finalist Jack Maddan
NEW COMMIT: The University of Virginia has secured its first public verbal commitment for Fall 2028 on the men’s side from Jack Maddan of Sugar Land, Texas. Maddan, who is among the top recruits in the Class of 2032, is a breaststroker and IMer and Junior National qualifier.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I am incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Virginia! First and foremost, I want to thank God for His plan in my life and putting me in this position. I also want to thank all of my coaches through my whole swimming journey, especially Coach Colin, Coach Dustin, and Coach Ben for their guidance and patience along the way. I am extremely grateful and owe all my thanks to my family, and friends who have supported me throughout this difficult process. Lastly, I want to thank Coach Todd, Coach Tyler and the whole UVA staff for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. GO HOOS!!!”
Maddan, who trains year-round with First Colony Swim Team, most recently competed at Junior Nationals where he placed third in the 200m IM, fourth in the 200m breast, seventh in the 400m IM and ninth in the 100m breast while earning best times in all those events.
He finished fifth in the 200 breast, seventh in the 400 IM, 14th in the 100 breast and 18th in the 200 IM at Juniors West in December. He was the 200 breast runner-up at Justin Speedo Sectionals in March where he also placed eighth in the 200 back, ninth in the 50 breast and 100 fly, and 14th in the 200 fly.
His best times include:
- 100 breast – 54.06
- 200 breast – 1:55.47
- 200 IM – 1:47.37
- 400 IM – 3:52.97
- 50 free – 21.03
- 50 back – 23.09
Currently a junior at Strake Jesuit College Prep School, Maddan earned bronze in the 100 breast and 200 IM at the 2026 Texas UIL 6A State Championships. He also swam on the second-place 4×50 medley relay and the third-place 4×100 free relay.
Maddan’s best time in the 200 breast would’ve ranked second on UVA’s roster last year and would’ve scored in the C-final in that event at the conference meet. The Cavaliers placed seventh in the team standings at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships.
