Polish National Age Group Record Holder Gabriela Bortlisz Pledges to Northwestern for 2028
NEW COMMIT: Northwestern University has received its first public verbal commitment for Fall 2028 from Gabriela Bortlisz of Warsaw, Poland. Bortlisz is a talented sprint freestyler.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I’m happy to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at Northwestern University! This wouldn’t have been possible without my parents who have always been there for me. I also want to thank Coaches Szymon, Stanisław, and Bartek for guiding me throughout this journey. I’m very grateful to Coach Rachel and Coach Eddie for believing in me and giving me this amazing opportunity. GO ’CATS!”
Bortlisz is a Polish national age group record holder in the 50m free for 15-year-old girls and 16-year-old girls. She has also been part of numerous Polish national age group record relays. She trains with Mukp Warszawianka Wodny Park.
At the 2026 European Junior Championships, Bortlisz finished 11th in both the 50m free and 100m free. She placed 14th in the 50m free at the 2025 World Junior Championships at just 14 years old.
In LCM, her best times include:
- 50 free – 25.52
- 100 free – 55.43
- 200 free – 2:03.97
In SCY, those times convert to:
- 50 free – 22.27
- 100 free – 48.49
- 200 free – 1:48.80
Bortlisz’s best times (converted to yards) would’ve ranked third, second and sixth in the 50/100/200 free, respectively, on Northwestern’s roster last year. Those converted times are already fast enough to have scored in the B-final of the 50 free and 100 free at the 2026 Big Ten Championships.
Northwestern placed ninth at the 2026 Big Ten Championships.
