Missouri State Champ Avery Hogue Lends 2028 Verbal to Penn State
NEW COMMIT: Gladstone, Mo. native Avery Hogue has announced her verbal commitment to Penn State University, and she will arrive on campus in Fall 2028. Hogue is a Junior National qualifier who excels in freestyle, IM and butterfly.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Penn State University!! It would be impossible to mention everyone by name that I would need to thank because it truly takes a village. My parents have been by my side for every part of my journey and can’t thank them enough. A special thank you to Coach Nate who has shown me continuous support in helping me reach my goals. Lastly, I want to send a huge thank you to Coach Hollie, Coach Tommy, and Coach Mike for this amazing opportunity! So excited to see what the future holds! Go Nittany Lions!! #WeAre”
Hogue trains year-round with Club North Swimming. She most recently competed at Madison Futures last month where she finaled in five events after taking seventh in the 800m free at Columbia Speedo Sectionals in July. She raced three events at Juniors West in December before going on to finish fifth in both the 500 free and 1000 free at Columbia Speedo Sectionals in March.
Her best times include:
- 400 IM – 4:20.86
- 1000 free – 10:09.64
- 500 free – 4:57.09
- 200 free – 1:51.37
- 100 fly – 56.40
- 200 fly – 2:02.19
Currently a junior at Park Hill South High School, Hogue won the 200 IM and took third in the 500 free at the 2026 Missouri Class 2 State Championships, and was on the winning 4×50 free relay. She placed second in the 100 fly and fourth in the 200 free as a freshman, also winning the 4×50 free and 4×100 free relays.
She led Park Hill South to its third straight state title in 2026.
Penn State finished 13th at the 2026 Big Ten Championships. Hogue’s best time in the 200 fly would’ve ranked second on the Nittany Lions’ roster last year, while her top times in the 400 IM, 500 free and 1000 free would’ve been third.
