Cornell Lands 2027 Verbal From Burlingame Aquatic Club’s Alexa Chang
NEW COMMIT: Cornell University has scored a new verbal commitment* for the 2027-28 season and beyond from Alexa Chang of Burlingame, Calif. Chang is a Junior National qualifier who specializes in backstroke and butterfly.
She will join Anita Qian as a member of the Big Red’s Class of 2031.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to the admissions process at Cornell University to continue my academic and athletic career! I am immensely thankful for my family and friends, who have shown me endless love and support throughout my journey. I am also extremely grateful to my amazing coaches and teammates at Burlingame Aquatics for always encouraging me and challenging me to become better. Thank you so much to Coach Pat and Coach Noah for giving me this incredible opportunity. Go Big Red!”
Chang, who trains year-round with Burlingame Aquatic Club, won gold in the 50m back, 100m back and 100m fly at Western Zone Seniors in July after posting six top-8 finishes at Pacific Seniors two weeks prior. She raced to fourth place in the 50 back at Oceanside Speedo Sectionals in February before going on to final in four events at Far Westerns in April.
Her best times include:
- 100 back — 55.14
- 200 back — 2:04.13
- 100 fly — 55.99
Now a senior at Burlingame High School, Chang placed 16th in the 100 back at the 2026 CIF State Championships.
Cornell finished sixth at the 2026 Ivy League Championships. Chang’s top times in the 100 back and 100 fly would’ve ranked fourth on their roster last season.
