Louisville women’s basketball’s loss to Virginia created a conundrum.
The No. 23 Cardinals were hoping to host the first round of the NCAA Tournament and get a double-bye in the ACC Tournament. But those chances took a hit after U of L’s loss to the Cavaliers on Sunday. It’s created a must-win situation for Louisville when it faces Florida State today. The Cardinals (22-7) and Seminoles both are 11-5 in the ACC standings. To earn a double-bye, U of L needs to win its last two games, including Sunday at Notre Dame.
Virginia Tech clinched at least a share of the regular-season title Sunday and likely will be the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. If the season ended today, Syracuse, N.C. State and Notre Dame also would get double-byes as top-four teams in the league.
