Feb. 14—SIOUX CENTER, Iowa. — While the University of Jamestown’s Kia Tower made history, it was not enough to get the Jimmies past Dordt University in a 73-55 loss on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Defenders’ DeWitt Gymnasium.
The most significant moment for the Jimmies in the game came in the third quarter when Kia Tower was fouled and hit both to cut the deficit to 36-27. The two free throws made Jimmies history as they pushed Tower’s career points total out to 1,175, moving her past Kathi Fischer into second on the all-time career points list in program history.
The Defenders took an early 8-2 lead before the Jimmies were able to fight back and cut it down to 8-5. The Defenders were able to continue to stretch it out though and took an 11-point lead at 29-18 with 4:48 to go in the second quarter. They had a chance to push their lead out to 12 points later in the frame but the Jimmies forced a turnover, which sprung Samantha Paulsen on a breakaway to cut the deficit to 31-23 with 2:15 to go in the first half. The Jimmies took that momentum as they were able to cut the deficit to 31-25 at the half.
The Defenders pulled away in the third quarter as the Jimmies struggled to shoot the ball as they shot 3-for-19. The Jimmies’ shooting struggles allowed the Defenders to push the lead out to 54-34 heading into the fourth quarter.
