Back to France – and the Parc des Expos in Nîmes, one of archery’s most longstanding and recognisable indoor venues. Cue the spotlight on the penultimate leg of this year’s Indoor Archery World Series – before season titles are awarded in Vegas in two weeks…
…for the senior categories at least. Because, for the second year, Nimes is hosting the Indoor Archery World Series Youth Finals for under 21s.
Dutch international Quinty Roeffen dominated the competition at the two (of three) 250 events she attended late last calendar year and remains a name to watch not only for Sunday’s matchplay, but as we head into the rest of this Olympic season.
Archers from the Netherlands may tread the stage well, with world record holder Mike Schloesser (recently turned 30) in form and defending series champ Steve Wijler on his usual 18-metre tear.
And will Wijler indoor nemesis Brady Ellison turn up? His second child was born this week.
It won’t be long until the Olympics takes over in 2024. And with France the host country, the home squad for the Games is bound to draw attention at this home tournament. A taste of the atmosphere to come later this summer in Les Invalides.
