Canadian National Junior Teamer Abby McLeod Verbals to Auburn for 2028
NEW COMMIT: Auburn University has landed an impressive verbal commitment for Fall 2028 from Canadian international Abby McLeod of Delta, British Columbia. McLeod is a member of the Canadian National Junior Team and is a rising distance star.
She will join Abby Moore and Madi King as a member of the Tigers’ Class of 2032.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Auburn University! I would like to give a big thank you to Coach Averee, Coach Ryan and all the coaching staff at Auburn for this opportunity! And a huge thank you to Coach Judy, I would not be here without her! I would also like to thank my family and friends including Coach Duco for always supporting me! WAR EAGLE🧡💙”
McLeod most recently competed at Junior Pan Pacs where she placed fifth in the 1500m free as well as sixth in both the 400m free and 800m free. She won the 1500m free at the Canadian Trials in July, also taking second in the 800m free and third in both the 200m free and 400m free.
Last summer, McLeod finished 11th in the 1500m free and 17th in the 800m free at World Junior Championships. She earned three gold medals at the Winter Provincial Championships in March before a trio of podium finishes at April’s Canadian Open.
Additionally, McLeod will compete at the World Junior Open Water Championships in Sante Fe, Argentina, this September.
In LCM, her best times include:
- 200m free – 2:01.84
- 400m free – 4:16.63
- 800m free – 8:46.02
- 1500m free – 16:44.22
In SCY, those times convert to:
- 200 free – 1:46.61
- 500 free – 4:46.14
- 1000 free – 9:46.51
- 1650 free – 16:19.11
Auburn placed seventh at the 2026 Southeastern Conference Championships.
McLeod is a huge pickup for the Tigers. Her best times (converted to yards) would’ve ranked first on their roster last year in the 1000 free and 1650 free, as well as third in the 500 free and fifth in the 200 free. Her best time in the mile (converted to yards) would’ve placed 10th at last year’s conference meet.
