Minnesota Women Take Down Iowa in Home Dual Meet

The University of Minnesota women’s swim and dive teams welcomed Big Ten rival Iowa for a dual meet Saturday and finished first in 11 out of 16 events on the way to a 178-122 victory.

Minnesota’s Kamdyn Periat, Ava Goodno, Morgan Thomas and Livi Wanner finished well ahead of any other squad in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.38. Periat later won the 100 free (51.18), and she anchored the Golden Gophers’ 400 free relay to a first-place finish. Wanner, Thomas and Mina Kaljevic joined Periat as the team clocked 3:23.35.

Faith Lamah topped the 200 free in 1:50.76, and Rachel Conley finished first in the 200 butterfly (2:00.55). Kaljevic held on for the win in the 500 free (5:01.26), and Claire Renke came home first in the 100 fly (54.53). Diver Elna Widerstrom won 3-meter (340.35) and 1-meter (305.63).

Minnesota’s Katie McCarthy was listed as the winner of the 1000 free, but the results from the race are incorrect, with all five participants listed as beating the fastest time in history. Later, McCarthy took first in the 200 IM, coming from behind to win in 2:03.69.

Iowa got its first win from Klare Pilger in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.34, and teammate Elizabeth Beam got second (56.48). Em Mosner followed with a first-place time of 1:04.00 in the 100 breaststroke, and Payton Flowers won the 50 free (22.57). Beam came in first in the 200 back (2:02.71) while Mosner topped the 200 breast (2:19.66) as teammate Olivia Swalley (2:20.74) secured another 1-2 finish.
