Blue Devils Snag 2027 Verbal From Sprinter Teddy O’Donnell
NEW COMMIT: Duke University has scored a new verbal commitment for the 2027-28 season and beyond from Teddy O’Donnell of Wilmette, Ill. O’Donnell is a Junior National qualifier who excels in sprint events.
He will join Aiden Yeo and Grant O’Mara in Durham as a member of the Blue Devils’ Class of 2031.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I’m extremely excited and honored to announce my commitment to the admissions process at Duke University to continue my academic and athletic career! I’d like to thank my family, friends, teammates and coaches for always being by my side and supporting me throughout this journey. I’d also like to thank Coach Brian and the entire Duke Swimming and Diving staff for this amazing opportunity. Go Blue Devils!”
O’Donnell does his club swimming with NASA Wildcat Aquatics and most recently finished 11th in the 50m fly and 21st in the 100m fly at Junior Nationals. His time of 24.61 in the 50m fly set a new Illinois LSC record. He also recorded five top-25 finishes at NCSA Spring Championships in March where his highest finish was a sixth-place showing in the 50 fly.
His best times include:
- 50 free – 20.59
- 50 fly – 21.67
- 100 fly – 48.19
- 200 IM – 1:50.65
A rising senior at New Trier High School, O’Donnell placed sixth in the 100 fly and 14th in the 200 IM at the 2026 Illinois Boys State Championships, also helping his 4×50 free relay to third place. He took 16th in the 200 IM at the state meet as a sophomore in 2025.
O’Donnell’s best time in the 100 fly would’ve ranked second on Duke’s roster last year. The Blue Devils finished 14th at the 2026 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships.
