“This journey is not so different from our past eight championships. They wrote us off and every time we kept writing,” LeBron said in Ohio State’s hype video that was posted Saturday.

He added: “The pen is in our hands and we are writing our championship chapter.”

No. 8 Ohio State enters Monday’s CFP championship vs. No. 7 Notre Dame as an 8.5-point favorite on BetMGM. It is the first trip back to the CFP championship game for the Buckeyes since the 2021 CFP championship, where they fell to No. 1 Alabama 52-24.

Since the start of this CFP, Ohio State has been one of the more sound and dominant teams. In its three CFP games, Ohio State has outscored its opponents – No. 8 Tennessee, No. 1 Oregon and No. 5 Texas – 111-52 while averaging 447.6 yards of offense.

To return to the national championship game, Ohio State defeated Texas in the CFP Cotton Bowl semifinal on Jan. 10. Buckeyes star defensive tackle Jack Sawyer sealed the win for his home state team in the fourth quarter on a 83-yard scoop-and-score touchdown after stripping the ball out of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers’ hands.

The signature line of Ohio State’s hype video came at the end when the 20-time NBA All-Star made reference to one of the Ryan Day’s core program phrases and mindsets: Ohio Against The World.

“It’s no longer a question of why not us? But (instead) a statement. It’s always been us. It is and it will always be Ohio Against The World,” LeBron said. “Our story is unfinished. Our story has one last chapter to write: the Chapter of Champions.”

Day enters Monday’s CFP championship with a 4-3 record in four CFP appearances. As noted in Ohio State’s game notes, Day is the only active coach with four CFP appearances in the last six years.

Opposing Day on the other sideline at Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be former Ohio State linebacker Marcus Freeman, who is 14-5 against ranked opponents in his four seasons at Notre Dame. In games against their alma mater, former Buckeyes turned coaches are 8-26-1 per Ohio State’s game notes.

Ohio State and Notre Dame will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET in the CFP championship game on Monday.
