The Nebraska women’s basketball team returned home following a three-game skid on the road to host Penn State on Sunday afternoon. The Huskers snapped their losing streak, taking down the Nittany Lions 72-61.
Nebraska took a strong lead numerous times in the game, going up 10-0 at the start, then 51-34 in the third quarter. But Penn State fought back each time, tying the game at 59 with four minutes left. The Huskers outscored the Nittany Lions 13-2 in the final stretch to get the win.
Both teams landed 24 shots from the floor, but Nebraska edged out Penn State from beyond the arc and at the free-throw line. The Huskers landed 8-of-30 from beyond the arc and 16-of-19 from the free throw line, while the Nittany Lions shot 4-of-16 and 9-of-15, respectively.
Callin Hake and Britt Prince landed five shots from the floor and three from beyond the arc. Hake scored a team-high 16 points, shooting 5-of-10 from the floor and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. Prince dropped 13 points, going 5-of-15 and 3-of-8, respectively.
Alexis Markowski also delivered 13 points for Nebraska in the win, finishing 4-of-12 from the floor. Markowski led the Huskers in free throws, going 5-of-6 from the line. She also led the team in rebounds with 10, earning her 46th career double-double.
Nebraska improves to 11-4 on the season and 2-2 in conference play. The Huskers remain home to face No. 21 Michigan State on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CT on B1G+ and Nebraska Public Media.
