Idaho women use strong second half to beat Montana

Jan. 5—MISSOULA — Hope Hassmann scored 20 points and Idaho defeated Montana 63-50 Saturday in Big Sky Conference women’s basketball.

Olivia Nelson and Sarah Brans each added 12 points for the Vandals (9-4 overall, 1-1 in Big Sky games), who outscored the Lady Griz 42-31 in the second half.

Avery Waddington led Montana (5-8, 1-1) with 15 points and nine rebounds. Mack Konig scored 11 points and added six assists.

Dani Bartsch gave the Lady Griz a 29-27 lead in the third quarter, but the Vandals took control from there, taking a 42-35 advantage into the final frame. Bartsch finished with eight points on 3-for-10 shooting, including 2 of 8 from behind the arc.

Idaho grew the lead to 47-37 in the first minute of the fourth quarter.

Konig cut the lead to 55-47 with 3:55 left, but Montana could get no closer to Idaho.

Montana heads on the road to play Northern Arizona Thursday.
