Yankees re-signing RHP Jonathan Loaisiga to one-year deal: report

by

The Yankees are bringing back a familiar face for their re-tooled bullpen.

New York is signing RHP Jonathan Loaisiga to a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Jorge Castillo. The contract will reportedly have a team option for 2026.

The right-hander was being pursued by a number of teams including the Mets, Padres, Rangers and Blue Jays but he ultimately decided to return to The Bronx.

Loaisiga, 30, missed most of the 2024 season due to surgery to repair a torn UCL. The reliever did not undergo Tommy John surgery but instead had the internal brace surgery to cut down his recovery time. He underwent the surgery in April so he could be ready for Spring Training.

Unfortunately, Loaisiga’s career has been hampered by injuries in recent years. He made just 17 appearances in 2023 but made 50-plus appearances in back-to-back years (2021-22).

The Nicaraguan native was limited to just three appearances last season, allowing seven hits, and one walk over four innings while striking out three batters.

Loaisiga owns a 3.44 ERA while making 163 appearances in his seven-year career, all with the Yankees.
