World Aquatics Open Water World Cup to Open 2025 Season in Egypt
World Aquatics on Tuesday announced the schedule for the 2025 Open Water World Cup, which will begin in February in Egypt.
The first four stops on the five-event tour were released on Tuesday for the tour’s 19th season. They’ll start in Egypt’s Soma Bay on the weekend of Feb. 21-22. The tour will conclude in the fall, with an Oct. 10-11 stop in Golfo Aranchi, Italy, slated as the fourth stop before a culminating fifth spot still to be announced.
Soma Bay was the location of the 2024 season-opener. It also hosted a stop in 2023, attached to the country’s Egypt Aquatics Festival.
Spain is back on the calendar for the first time since the World Aquatics Championships in 2013. The last time the World Cup visited Spain was Sevilla in 2007, one of 48 World Aquatics events in the country.
Setubal is on calendar for the 15th time since 2007. The Olympic marathon qualifier site in 2012, 2016 and 2021 will stage European Aquatics’ Open Water Cup a week later, the second stop on that five-race series. It remains one of the favored spots by mainstays of the circuit.
Golfo Aranci, which made its debut in 2023, is on the slate for the third year running. In between stops three and four is the 2025 World Aquatics Championships, with open water swimming to be held in the waters around Singapore’s Sentosa Island.
“Every stop on the World Aquatics Open Water Swimming World Cup 2025 calendar offers something unique, from the crystal-clear waters of Soma Bay to two iconic Mediterranean venues and the thrill of racing in the Atlantic,” World Aquatics Open Water Swimming Technical Committee Chair Sid Cassidy said in a press release. “With such exceptional World Cup hosts and the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore on the horizon, the upcoming season promises to be truly unforgettable for open water swimming.”
