England’s Megan Jones said choosing to play for the Red Roses over Wales was “the best leap” of her career.

Jones, a Cardiff-born Welsh speaker, could face Wales for the first time on Saturday in Bristol.

The 27-year-old was a replacement in England’s 48-0 win over Italy on Sunday, her first appearance at the Women’s Six Nations since 2021.

“In terms of the build-up it’s different,” said Jones. “It will be one to remember if I take to the field.”

The fly-half – whose father is Welsh and mother is English – grew up in Cardiff but moved to England as a teenager to play rugby at Hartpury.

Having made her England debut in 2015, she has since started a World Cup final in 2017 and four years later co-captained Team GB’s Sevens team at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

“When I made the decision in 2014 that was the time England had just won the World Cup, it was really positive. It was the best leap I’ve made,” said Jones.

“It’s easy to live in the past, but I probably would make the same decision now. It’s allowed me to grow in huge ways.”

Wales face England at Ashton Gate having lost at home to Scotland in their Six Nations opener and are winless across their past four matches.

Lleucu George missed a 79th-minute conversion which would have secured a draw for the hosts, but Jones still feels Wales are moving in the right direction.

“You look at how competitive that match was, they’re closing the gap on us 100%,” she added.

“They’ve got threats all over the park. A lot of the focus will be on England and what we are going to do. But there are key players who we have to keep in their box.”
