WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: UTPB defeats WNMU

Jan. 5—SILVER CITY, N.M. — The UTPB women’s basketball team defeated Western New Mexico University in an 83-54 victory Sunday on the road in Lone Star Conference play.

The Falcons improved to 8-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play while the Lady Mustangs fell to 0-13, 0-7.

UTPB managed to outscore Western New Mexico 24-7 in the second quarter.

Taysha Rushton had 18 points to lead UTPB while Avalon Munoz had 15 and Kamari Portalis finished with 12.

Western New Mexico’s Alina Martin had 11 points to lead her team while Yvanna Villarreal 10.

UTPB will next face Eastern New Mexico at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at Falcon Dome.
