Franchon Crews-Dezurn defeated Shadasia Green by unanimous decision on Friday in Orlando, Florida, to win the vacant WBC super middleweight title and the WBA interim supper middleweight title.
Crews-Dezurn (9-2, 2 KOs) won by scorecards of 97-93, 97-93 and 98-92. She takes the No. 2 spot in the rankings from Green, who falls one spot to No. 3. Crews-Dezurn is a former champion in the division. She lost the belts in a majority decision against Savannah Marshall in July. Marshall is the WBC champion in recess and the full WBA champion, but she is recovering form a hand injury and the WBA ordered that Crews-Dezurn must fight Marshall next.
Green (13-1, 11 KOs) has been the WBC mandatory challenger since she defeated Elin Cederroos by sixth-round TKO in February.
Saturday night in Germany, No. 1 junior flyweight Yesica Nery Plata defeated No. 3 strawweight Sarah Bormann by split decision in a very close fight to defend her WBC and WBA 108-pound titles. Plata (30-2, 3 KOs), who was deducted a point for throwing a punch after the bell at the end of Round 9, won by scorecards of 96-93, 97-92 and 94-95.
Borman (17-1, 7 KOs) who moved up in weight to challenge Nery Plata, is the current WBC and IBF strawweight interim champion. Plata retains he top spot in the division, while Bormann enters at No. 3 after a good performance.
Rankings will be updated every Tuesday. They’ll be based on recent bouts, head-to-head competition and the quality of opponent. As with almost everything, until fighters square off against one another, there is a layer of subjectivity to it. Fighters who haven’t fought in 18 months and don’t have a fight scheduled will be removed from the rankings until they fight again.
