Will Modglin Wins Third Event

The Texas men and women both led by 500 points heading into their final night at a Big 12 Championships meet in Morgantown, West Virginia.

The Longhorns, who are moving to the SEC next year as college conferences will have a radical year of change, closed in on Big 12 titles.

Big 12 Men’s 200 Backstroke

Will Modglin put the exclamation point on his stellar freshman conference meet with a win in the 200 backstroke. He got to the wall in 1:39.73, an NCAA B cut.






Earlier in the meet, Modglin won the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, giving him three individual titles in his first college conference meet.

Cincinnati’s Hunter Gubeno finished second in 1:39.95, while Texas senior Chris O’Connor took third in 1:43.12.

Big 12 Women’s 200 Backstroke

Texas swimmer Olivia Bray won the 200 backstroke conference championship. It was her third consecutive title in the event.

Bray finished in 1:53.01.

Texas freshman Berit Berglund finished second in 1:55.43.

TCU’s Tania Quaglieri finished third in 1:56.04.

 

Big 12 Women’s 100 Freestyle

Texas freshman Erin Gemmell cruised to the conference title in the 100 freestyle, winning in 48.08.

Cincinnati senior Jessica Davis finished second in 48.72, while Texas took the next four spots,led by senior Grace Cooper, who finished third in 48.74.

 

Big 12 Men’s 100 Freestyle

Texas took three of the top four spots in the men’s 100 free, led by freshman Nate Germonprez, who won the event in 42.24, dropping a half second from prelims.

BYU’s Jordan Tiffany finished second in 42.49.

Texas freshman Camden Tyler took third in 42.53, while senior Coby Corrozza was fourth in 42.83.

 

Big 12 Women’s 200 Breaststroke

Lydia Jacoby led a 1-2 Texas finish with a 2:05.58 in the 200 breaststroke, dropping more than four and a half seconds from the morning.

Anna Elendt was second in 2:06.46, dropping three seconds.

West Virginia’s Mia Cheatwood finished third in 2:09.13.

 

Big 12 Women’s 1650 Freestyle

Erica Sullivan broke the Big 12 meet record to win the mile in 15:52.90. It it is the fourth fastest time in the NCAA this season.

Sullivan is a three-time conference champion in the event.

 

Big 12 Men’s 1650 Freestyle

Texas sophomore Alec Enyeart won the men’s mile with a swim of 14:58.71, the only one to break 15 minutes in the event.

West Virginia’s Ian Puskovitch took second in 15:15.34.

Cincinnati’s Alex Gonzalez finished third in 15:19.33.
