Where Vanderbilt women’s basketball stands in updated NCAA tournament bracket projections

by

Vanderbilt women’s basketball was named the last team in the NCAA Tournament by Charlie Creme’s ESPN bracketology released Tuesday.

As a No. 11 seed, the Commodores (19-8, 6-7 SEC) would face Auburn in the First Four. They are paired with No. 6 West Virginia in the Blacksburg Regional that also includes No. 3 seed Virginia Tech and No. 14 seed Marshall.

Both The Athletic and Her Hoop Stats list Vanderbilt among the “first four out” in their bracketology projections.

In the past 10 NCAA Tournaments, all but one team that has finished the regular season with at least an 8-8 conference record has gotten a bid. The one team that was left out was 2019 Georgia, which had an overall record of 18-12 and a conference record of 9-7.

Vanderbilt got a road win at Texas A&M on Thursday but got blown out by Tennessee at home on Sunday. The Commodores are currently No. 59 in the NET and have wins over fellow bubble teams Auburn and Texas A&M, as well as a projected NCAA Tournament team in Mississippi State.
