Where South Carolina women’s basketball stands in latest March Madness bracket predictions

COLUMBIA — South Carolina women’s basketball is projected to host in the first round of the 2024-25 NCAA Tournament as of Week 11.

The No. 2 Gamecocks are 14-1 overall, losing just one game so far to No. 1 UCLA on Nov. 24. South Carolina is 2-0 to start SEC play, with a top 10 matchup on the horizon.

Coach Dawn Staley welcomes unranked Texas A&M to town on Thursday (5 p.m., ESPN2) then hosts No. 6 Texas on Sunday (1 p.m., ESPN).

Here’s where South Carolina stands in the latest NCAA Tournament projections.

South Carolina projected as No. 1 seed

ESPN’s Charlie Creme’s latest projections have the Gamecocks as a No. 1 seed, hosting in Columbia. Creme has Creighton (No. 8), Oregon (No. 9), and Eastern Illinois (No. 16) in their bracket. South Carolina would play Eastern Illinois and the winner would face the winner of Creighton vs. Oregon.

South Carolina’s basketball’s NCAA Tournament résumé, NET ranking

The Gamecocks are at the top of the NCAA NET rankings. South Carolina’s one loss is a Quad 1 loss has beaten four ranked opponents in Duke, TCU, Iowa State and NC State.

The Gamecocks are 3-1 on the road, 5-0 on a neutral court, 6-0 at home, 6-1 in Quad 1 games, 2-0 in Quad 2 games, 1-0 in Quad 3 games and 5-0 in Quad 4 games.

To close January, the Gamecocks travel to play No. 19 Alabama on Jan. 16, host No. 11 Oklahoma on Jan. 19 and No. 4 LSU on Jan. 23 then finish at No. 15 Tennessee on Jan. 27.

Texas is No. 2 in the NET.

South Carolina women’s basketball’s NCAA Tournament history

South Carolina has won three national championships since 2017, most recently in April after going 38-0 in the 2023-24 season.

The Gamecocks have six Final Four appearances, seven Elite Eights, and have played in 14 Sweet 16 games. South Carolina has won the SEC tournament title eight times and is an eight-time SEC regular season champion.
