For the seventh consecutive week South Carolina women’s basketball is No. 2 in the USA TODAY coaches poll.
The Gamecocks (20-1, 8-0 SEC) remained in the No. 2 spot in both the USA TODAY coaches poll and Associated Press poll after going undefeated in a five-game stretch of ranked opponents.
South Carolina defeated then No. 17 Tennessee 70-63 on Monday and then No. 5 LSU on Friday night, 66-56, bumping the Tigers to No. 7 in the poll in addition to giving them their first loss of the season.
Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley’s squad has now defeated nine ranked opponents this season.

UCLA has remained at the No. 1 spot in the polls since beating South Carolina on Nov. 24. The Bruins (19-0) are the only undefeated team left in Division I women’s basketball.
After Tennessee, the Gamecocks end their streak of facing ranked opponents as they have the last five games. South Carolina returns home to host Auburn on Feb. 2 (noon, SEC Network).
