The North Carolina Tar Heels are jumping right into the 2025 portion of their basketball schedule, as they’ll face the Louisville Cardinals on Wednesday, January 1 in Kentucky for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
Both UNC (8-5, 1-0 ACC) and Louisville (8-5, 1-1 ACC) enter tonight’s clash with recent momentum. North Carolina upset UCLA in New York City and beat Campbell comfortably on Sunday night, while the host Cardinals beat Florida State and Eastern Kentucky to close out 2024.
We hope the Tar Heels are finally starting to find their stride, as they begin 2025 with their fourth 2-game winning streak on their current season. RJ Davis is playing his best basketball, UNC is starting to reap the benefits of starting Ian Jackson and Hubert Davis is discovering which lines work best for North Carolina.
Louisville may not be the home-run hitter in-state rival Kentucky is, but Louisville is much-improved in its first year under new head coach Pat Kelsey. The Cardinals’ eight wins matches their 2023-2024 season total – and is their highest amount since 2021-2022.
Like the Tar Heels, Louisville is led by four, high-scoring guards who average a minimum 10 points per game. Chucky Hepburn leads the Cardinals with 15.2 points per game, Terrence Edwards Jr. averages 14.7, Reyne Smith contributes 13.1 and J’Vonne Hadley adds 10.2.
If you’re already in Louisville for tonight’s game, have fun and bring UNC some good mojo. If you’re tuning in on your television, tablet, phone or streaming device of your choice, let us tell you how you can watch tonight’s ACC battle.

UNC at Louisville prediction, picks, odds
North Carolina plays its second ACC game of the 2024-2025 college basketball season at Louisville, going nearly a month since escaping Georgia Tech inside the Dean Dome. The Tar Heels should be prepared, coming off a massive upset against UCLA and a big win during a tune-up vs. Campbell.
Louisville enters tonight’s ACC matchup off a close win against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday December 28. The Cardinals also took care of Florida State, 90-76, for their first ACC win earlier in December. Louisville has home-court advantage – and despite today being New Year’s Day, the KFC Yum! Center should have plenty of red and white in the stands.
UNC finds a way to play consistent, first-half basketball and leaves Louisville with a 2-0 record in ACC play.
