Louisville women’s basketball will start 2025 by hosting Miami on Thursday.
The Cardinals (8-5, 1-1 ACC) ended 2024 with an 86-73 road win over Boston College on Sunday while debuting an altered starting lineup. Jayda Curry got her first start of the season in place of Merissah Russell, who had started the previous three games. Mackenly Randolph occupied the starting spot the first nine games of the season.
Louisville coach Jeff Walz noted Russell and Randolph play better coming off the bench after they see the game for a few minutes. But with both playing well off the bench, it created a need for a fifth starter. Curry started against the Eagles and led the team with 14 points to go along with three steals, two assists and two rebounds.
The Cardinals will look for a three-game win streak against Miami, which underwent a head coaching change. Katie Meier retired during the offseason, ushering in the Tricia Cullop era of Hurricanes women’s basketball. The Canes (11-2, 1-1) lost, 69-60, to No. 17 North Carolina on Sunday.
