Alabama football has already lost its share of depth in its wide receiver room.
Before the NCAA transfer portal window officially opens Monday, three wide receivers — Kendrick Law, Kobe Prentice and Caleb Odom — have each reportedly shared their interest in entering the portal and finding a new home for the 2025 season.
When asked about those transfers Sunday night, Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer talked of the unselfishness of the room as a whole.
“I think they’re aware that, you know, that just our style of offense this year, it was all about whatever it took to win,” DeBoer said. “And I’ll credit those guys. They did a great job of doing whatever they needed to do to help us win.”
According to Pro Football Focus, Alabama had 308 total targets in the passing game. Freshman Ryan Williams led the team with 79, while junior Germie Bernard had 67. The pair accounted for over 47% of the total targets.
No other Alabama receiver eclipsed 25 targets. Prentice, Law and Odom combined for 44 total targets. The trio had 28 receptions for 299 yards and a touchdown.
“We got a lot of unselfish guys, you know, that from year to year is going to change and evolve based on the personnel we have,” DeBoer said. “The style is going to be different. It might not just be your quarterback. It might be, you know, the number receivers or tight ends. Yeah, we’re going to try to have some guys that fit a little bit of what we envision it being down the road. But that’s kind of what I really appreciate about our guys is it was all about whatever it took to win. Them taking a back seat to whatever it would take to do that for them individually. And all those guys did that.”
Offensive lineman Miles McVay also shared his intention to enter the transfer portal Sunday, joining cornerback Jahlil Hurley, linebacker Keanu Koht and defensive linemen Jehiem Oatis who made their decisions early in the season.
Alabama will face Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl at 11 a.m. CT Dec. 31 in Tampa, Florida.
