Updating LSU women’s basketball national title odds after massive SEC win

by

LSU head coach Kim Mulkey during a women’s college basketball game between the Lady Vols and LSU at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025.

LSU women’s basketball picked up its biggest win of the season on Thursday night, beating a ranked Tennessee team in the final second. LSU went on the road and returned to Baton Rouge 3-0 in conference play.

It was an important win for an LSU team that hasn’t always played its most consistent basketball this year. This is a talented team, but there are questions about the group’s ceiling with Angel Reese off in the WNBA.

But stars remain. Flau’Jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow are leading the way for an experienced and talented group. Kim Mulkey is proven as a coach and this team shouldn’t be counted out.

What do the oddsmakers say about LSU’s chances to go all the way?

According to BetMGM, LSU’s odds to win the national title are +2000. That ranks seventh nationally, just behind SEC foe Texas at sixth.

UConn and South Carolina are the two favorites. The Huskies sit at +250, with the Gamecocks at +350.

Here’s a look at the complete top 11:

  • UConn +250

  • South Carolina +350

  • UCLA +500

  • Notre Dame +600

  • USC +700

  • Texas +1200

  • LSU +2000

  • NC State +5000

  • Kansas State +5000

  • Oklahoma +5000

  • Maryland +5000

LSU already has a win over one team on that list, beating NC State in November. LSU’s date with South Carolina is on the horizon and that will be the Tigers’ toughest test yet.
