A Paris 2024 Olympic Quota place will be on offer in each of the 12 individual events at the Olympic Qualification CAT XIV Rifle and Pistol Championships in Buenos Aires, where finals start tomorrow.
The 10m air pistol men’s and women’s competitions will be the first to be decided at the Championship of the Americas in the Argentinian capital.
A total of 168 athletes from 21 countries are due to participate at the Argentine Federal Shooting Range.
The hosts will field 21 competitors across the events.
Canada and the United States have teams of 16, with the latter including 30-year-old Sagen Maddalena, who was fifth at the Tokyo 2020 Games and earned world bronze last year in the 50m rifle 3 positions.
Brazil’s team numbers 15, one more than Guatemala – whose athletes are now free to compete under their own flag and with their own anthem following the recent decision by the International Olympic Committee to lift the ban imposed upon their National Olympic Committee in 2022.
Also fielding 14 athletes will be Mexico, whose team includes 20-year-old Andrea Ibarra Miranda, world-ranked four in the 10m air pistol women (pictured).
Cuba’s team of eight includes Leuris Pupo of Cuba, world-ranked ninth in the 25m rapid fire pistol.
Tomorrow will be the first of five days of finals at a Championship that concludes on Sunday (April 7) with the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol.
