by

After a convincing Texas football win Saturday, the Longhorns are favored again. So what is Texas’ reward for beating Clemson 38-24 in the College Football Playoff first round?

Traveling to Atlanta to play Big 12 champions Arizona State (11-2) on New Year’s Day in the Peach Bowl. In a meeting of the last two Big 12 champions, the Longhorns are favored by more than a touchdown.

But Texas’ win against the Tigers included losing a few to injuries.

Right tackle Cam Williams and running back Quintrevion Wisner were both injured on the same play in the first half. Wisner was seen in a stationary bike later, but Williams walked off gingerly and did not have his helmet when he left the tent.

Center Jake Majors also left after a Clemson illegal blindside block but walked off on his own power.

Add on top of that that Isaiah Bond did not dress ahead of the game. It is unclear if he will be cleared to play ahead of the Peach Bowl.

What do we know about Arizona State?

Arizona State had three weeks of rest after an emphatic 45-19 win over Iowa State in the Big 12 championship game. That win was Arizona State’s sixth in a row.

The Sun Devils continued to practice in recent weeks but are working without leading receiver Jordyn Tyson after he suffered a season-ending leg injury during a 49-7 win over Arizona. It is reported that Tyson underwent surgery and the specifics of the injury are not clear.

But Arizona State can still be deadly with Sam Leavitt throwing for 2,663 yards and 24 touchdowns this season. With Tyson out, Leavitt will likely look to running back Cam Skattebo to help run the offense.

Skattebo has 1,568 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns. He is the second-leading receiver after Tyson with 506 yards.
