The Texas Tech women’s basketball team was unable to overcome its slow start in a 71-58 loss to Oklahoma State on Wednesday in Stillwater.
The Lady Raiders hit just two of their 14 shots in the first quarter and fell behind quickly. Tech suffered its second loss in the past three games and suffered its first Big 12 road loss of the season.
Each squad had turnover troubles in the first half, though only one was able to capitalize. Oklahoma State had 17 points off of 10 Texas Tech turnovers. Meanwhile, the Lady Raiders got no points on OSU’s 10 giveaways.
After getting down big early in the third quarter, the Lady Raiders (13-4, 2-2) went on a 10-0 run to trim the deficit to 42-35 at the 3:49 mark. Oklahoma State fended the visitors off the rest of the way.

Jasmine Shavers led the team with 17 points and 10 rebounds, going 7-of-15 from the field in the defeat. Bailey Maupin followed with 16 points, six rebounds and three assists. Kilah Freelon was next in the scoring column with six.
Four players reached double-digit scoring numbers for Oklahoma State: Hannah Gusters 19, Lior Garzon 11, Stailee Heard 12 and Quincy Noble 10.
Oklahoma State won the rebounding battle 36-26, which was enough to overcome the 21 turnovers for the game. The Cowboys also shot 54.9% from the field overall compared to 36.2% for Texas Tech.
The Lady Raiders remain on the road for their next when as they visit Oklahoma on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Sooners (9-6, 3-1) suffered a 74-57 setback to 12th-ranked Kansas State on Wednesday.
