The first day of the annual Art Adamson Invitational opened with a full slate of events at Texas A&M.
The men’s and women’s midseason invitational is a staple in the college swim season.
After one day, Texas A&M leads the men’s meet with 368.5 points, followed by TCU (241), Utah (231), Incarnate Word (129.5) and Air Force (89).
The Aggies lead the women’s meet with 371 points. TCU is second with 256, followed by Washington State (253), Utah (138) and UIW (35).
Here is a look at how the first night of finals unfolded.
Women’s 200 Free Relay
Host Texas A&M claimed the first victory of the meet. The Aggies got to the wall in 1:29.10 led by Chloe Stepanek, Kaitlyn Owens, Kailey Kennedy and Olivia Theall, who split a 22.22 on the end.
Washington State’s Darcy Revitt, Emma Wright, Skylar Brgoach and Addy Lewis finished second in 1:30.10.
Utah’s Erin Palmer, Lily Milner, Julia Bartell and Norah Hay took third in 1:30.82.
Men’s 200 Free Relay
Texas A&M swept the opening relay with the men also winning. Connor Foote, Ben Scholl, Collin Fuchs and Baylor Nelson got to the wall in 1:16.95 with Nelson splitting a 19.19 on the anchor leg.
TCU’s Peter Horton, Jadon Wuilliez, Nigel Forbes and Milan Fabian took second in 1:17.50.
Incarnate Word’s Fabio Fasolo, Spyros Kranias, Luis De Oliviera and Amechi Nwaeze took third in 1:19.19.
Women’s 500 Free
Texas A&M had a 1-2 finish in the women’s 500 free to open the individual events.
Hayden Miller won the race with a time of 4:40.93. Chloe Stepanek finished second in 4:43.41.
Washington State’s Dori Hathazi took third in 4:48.98.
Men’s 500 Free
Utah’s Nick Chirafisi dropped nearly four seconds from prelims to get to the wall in first in 4:18.15.
He went 1-2 with Jones Lambert, who finished in 4:18.19.
UIW’s Panos Vlachogiannakos took third in 4:20.76.
Women’s 200 IM
The Aggies went 1-2-3 in the women’s 200 IM with all three dropping time from prelims.
Giulia Goerigk won the race in 1:57.96. The battle for second was a matter of two hundredths of a second as Hannah O’Leary got to the wall in 1:58.53, just ahead of Olivia Theall (1:58.55).
Men’s 200 IM
Baylor Nelson was well ahead of the field as expected in the 200 IM. He dropped nearly a second from prelims and touched the wall in 1:42.78 to win the race.
Teammate Munzy Kabbara took second in 1:43.87.
TCU’s Geremia Freri dropped more than two seconds and took third in 1:43.89.
Women’s 50 Free
Five swimmers were under 23 seconds in the women’s 50 freestyle final.
Texas A&M’s Kaitlyn Owens dropped more than two tenths to win the race in 22.18.
Utah’s Erin Palmer was second in 22.37, followed by Washington State’s Darcy Revitt (22.50), TCU’s Olivia Rhodes (22.91) and TCU’s Serena Gould (22.96).
Men’s 50 Free
The Aggies had five in the finals and all eight competitors in the final broke 20 seconds.
Texas A&M went 1-2 with Connor Foote (19.10) and Ben Scholl (19.30).
TCU went 3-4 with Jadon Wuilliez (19.55) and Peter Horton (19.77).
The Aggies took 5-6 with Seth Reno (19.80) and Collin Fuchs (19.87).
UIW’s Fabio Fasolo was seventh (19.91) and A&M’s Travis Gulledge was eighth (19.99).
Women’s 400 Medley Relay
Texas A&M closed the women’s portion of the opening finals session with a win in the 400 medley relay.
Kaitlyn Owens, Bobbi Kennet, Olivia Theall and Chloe Stepanek took the win in 3:31.63.
Washington State’s Anna Rauchholz, Darcy Revitt, Emily Lundgren and Emma Wright took second in 3:36.69.
The A&M B team of Jordan Buechler, Charlotte Longbottom, Katie Walker and Ella McQuinn was third in 3:18.16.
Men’s 400 Medley Relay
The Aggies went 1-2 in the final relay of the night.
Baylor Nelson, Travis Gulledge, Connor Foote and Ben Scholl won the race in 3:05.21.
The B team of Tommy Thomper, Alex Sanchez, Jacob Wimberly and Collin Fuchs took second in 3:07.40.
TCU’s Edgar Cicanci, Jadon Wuilliez, Nigel Forbes and Peter Horton finished third in 3:08.43.
