Tennessee Tops Arkansas Behind 50 Free Tie From Mona McSharry, Jillian Crooks
The No. Tennessee women’s swimming an diving team defeated Arkansas 164-72 on Thursday afternoon at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
It is the fifth consecutive SEC dual win for the Volunteers. During their last three dual meets, the Volunteers have won 42 of 47 events against No. 15 Alabama, Arkansas and Kentucky.
Camille Spink, the reigning SEC Swimmer of the Week, led the way for the Tennessee, winning the 100 free (48.35) and 200 free (1:45.74). She also helped the 200 free relay win to close the day. In that race, she swam the third leg and threw down a blazing 21.94 split.
Tennessee secured the top two times in the 200 medley relay to open the meet. The A lineup of Lexi Stephens, McKenzie Siroky, Brooklyn Douthwright and Jillian Crooks touched the wall in 1:39.62. The B team of Ella Jansen, Mona McSharry, Sara Stotler and Amber Myers came in second behind a time of 1:40.75.
After winning both distance freestyle events last week, Kate McCarville strolled to victory in the 1650 free (16:16.88) to open the individual competition.
Ella Jansen, the reigning SEC Freshman of the Week, won the 500 free behind a 4:46.22 mark.
Mona McSharry and Jillian Crooks sparked a thrilling finish by touching the wall together to tie in the 50 free (22.94).
Lexi Stephens (53.50) won the 100 back. Hannah Marinovich (1:02.52) won the 100 breast. Emily Brown won the 400 IM (4:13.68). Stotler posted the top time in the 100 fly with a 54.73.
Stotler, McSharry, Spink and Julia Mrozinski led Tennessee’s strong in the final event of the day with a first-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:32.19).
Arkansas’ Maria Jose Sanchez won the 1-meter diving event with 304.88 points and earned a springboard sweep with a score of 330.98 on 3-meter.
