Tennessee basketball is taking its top ranking and heading to New York.
The No. 1 Vols (8-0) face Miami (3-6) on Tuesday (6:30 p.m. ET, ESPN) in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.
The Vols ascended to the No. 1 ranking in the nation Monday for the third time in program history and the second time under coach Rick Barnes. UT was ranked No. 1 for a four-week stretch in the 2018-19 season.
Tennessee is facing an ACC foe for the fourth time this season. It already beat Louisville, Virginia and Syracuse as part of its unbeaten run to start the season.
UT’s 8-0 start to a season is its best since it opened the 2000-01 season with a 9-0 mark.
