BIRMINGHAM — T.R. Miller girls basketball defeated Annison by a score of 33-27 on Tuesday in the Class 4A AHSAA basketball semifinals at Legacy Arena.
T.R. Miller advanced to the girls Class 4A state championship game where it will play Good Hope on Friday at 4 p.m. at Legacy Arena.
The first half did not see much scoring as Anniston entered the break with a 13-6 lead. The Lady Bulldogs shot 19% (4-of-21) from the field in the first half, while the Lady Tigers shot 23.1% (3-of-13) from the field.
T.R. Miller pulled within three points, down 19-16, to end the third quarter behind back-to-back three pointers by Meg Fountain and Bethany Simmons. The Lady Tigers took their first lead of the game at the 6:33 mark of the fourth quarter behind a Bethany Simmons 3-pointer, putting them up 20-19.
Anniston got as close as three points with under a minute remaining in regulation, but it was not able to get any closer as T.R. Miller held onto claim victory. The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Bulldogs 17-9 in the fourth quarter.
Serenti Mitchell scored a game-high eight points for T.R. Miller. Fountain finished the game with seven points along with three steals, three assists and three rebounds. Anniston’s Jada Formby scored a team-high six points to go with six steals, two assists and two rebounds.
