From Ashlyn Watkins’ dunk to two players getting out of their respective shooting slumps, it was all South Carolina women’s basketball on Sunday night.
The No. 4 Gamecocks (9-1) defeated No. 13 TCU 85-52 in a neutral site game in Fort Worth, Texas, giving the Horned Frogs (9-1) their first loss of the season.
South Carolina guards MiLaysia Fulwiley and Raven Johnson, who have gone a combined 14-of-43 the last three games both finished in double figures. Fulwiley had a team-high 20 points, Johnson had 11. Coach Dawn Staley had four players score 10 or more points and 10-of-12 players who saw the court Sunday scored.
The Gamecocks put on a defensive clinic, holding TCU to nine points in each the second and third quarter. Sedona Prince, TCU’s 6-foot-7 center who averages 19.4 points this season, finished with just six points and two rebounds. Star guard Hailey Van Lith had 21.
The Horned Frogs finished 33% from the field, turning the ball over 20 times (a season high) allowing South Carolina to score 30 points off TCU’s mistakes.
