Saturday’s regular-season finale between South Carolina and Mississippi State in Starkville, Mississippi, is rife with postseason implications of which both basketball coaches are well aware.
South Carolina (24-6, 12-5 SEC) is assured of its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1997, but is still fighting for a top 4 seed and double-bye in the SEC Tournament in Nashville.
“We’ve got a lot we’re still playing for,” South Carolina coach Lamont Paris said. “There are still more milestones that are out there for us.”
Mississippi State (19-11, 8-9) still has work to do despite a NET ranking of No. 39 – eight spots ahead of South Carolina.
“Our opportunities are running out,” Bulldogs coach Chris Jans said. “We’ve got one more in the regular season to get a big win for this team to increase our resume.”
