Mar. 12—It’s an exciting time around Southern New Hampshire University these days. Both both the men’s and women’s basketball teams have qualified for the NCAA Division II tournaments.
The SNHU men, who are making their 22nd appearance in the big dance, received an automatic bid by winning the Northeast-10 Conference title on Saturday against Southern Connecticut State, earning an automatic bid for the NCAAs. They’ll begin their new quest on Saturday at noon against Bloomfield (New Jersey) College in a first-round East Regional game at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont.
The Penmen (21-10) are seeded third in the eight-team regional while Bloomfield (22-9) is sixth.
The SNHU women, who earned an at-large bid, will open the tournament on Friday night (7:30) against Thomas Jefferson University of Philadelphia at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass. The NCAA appearance will be the fifth for the SNHU women and third straight. SNHU (17-10) is seeded fifth, Jefferson (30-1) fourth.
The Franklin Pierce women also qualified, as the No. 7 seed, and will battle second-seeded Assumption on Friday on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Bentley.
