MALELANE, South Africa — Shaun Norris of South Africa won the Alfred Dunhill Golf Championship at Leopard Creek Country Club on Sunday after a final-round 67 gave him a 13-under-par total of 275 and a one-shot victory.
It was a second win on the DP World Tour for the 42-year-old, who started with an eagle at the second and overcame a double bogey on the seventh to take an early clubhouse lead.
Norris started the day six off the lead but watched as his challengers fell short on the final holes.
“I’m very happy that it worked out this way,” an emotional Norris said. “This last year has been very tough. It’s been up-and-down and all over the place. But thanks to God, my family, my wife. We’ve kept it together. Winning two weeks ago in Japan [at the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup] and then winning this week, what a blessing.”
Englishman John Parry, Ryan van Velzen from South Africa and overnight leader Marcus Kinhult finished tied for second, one shot back.
The 23-year-old Van Velzen looked well placed to join Norris at the top of the leaderboard and force a playoff, but he put his ball in the water at the 18th to finish with a 72 for the round.
Parry hit four birdies in his opening six holes but could not keep the momentum going on the back nine as he shot a 69.
Sweden’s Kinhult had led by three after the second round Friday and had a two-shot lead going into the last round, but he four-putted on the seventh for double bogey that saw him lose the lead. He forced his way back into contention but in the end shot a 2-over-par 74 for the day.
Exciting 20-year-old Spaniard Angel Ayora and Darius van Driel from the Netherlands were still in with a chance going into the last two holes but tied for fifth at 11-under-par 277.
The only other European tour title for Norris was also in South Africa, at the Steyn City Championship in 2022.
The tournament was the second straight in South Africa on the European tour after last week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge.
