The Seattle Kraken have reassigned forward Mitchell Stephens to the Coachella Valley Firebirds, it was reported Thursday.
Stephens, a 2015 second round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning, has split time between the Kraken and the Firebirds this season. In nine games with Seattle, he has collected an assist while scoring three goals and adding an assist in 11 games with the Firebirds.
Having turned pro at the end of the 2016-17 season, Stephens has appeared in 104 career NHL games with the Lightning, Kraken, Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens. Over that time, he has put up five goals and 17 points.
With Stephens being reassigned to the AHL, he will have the opportunity to play a big role for the Firebirds. Although he could most likely serve as a permanent bottom-six fixture, Stephens is good depth for the Kraken to have if hit with injuries.
