Schloesser takes 2nd season title without dropping a single point in matchplay

by

Mike Schloesser won his second compound men’s title of the 2024 Indoor Archery World Series in Nimes on Sunday without dropping a single point in matchplay, becoming the first athlete to shoot five 150s back-to-back in competition.

He beat James Lutz in the final 150–148, after posting the same score against Nicolas Girard, Mathias Fullerton, Robin Jaatma, and Valerio Della Stua yesterday – although he required a shoot-off to narrowly progress against Fullerton, the top seed.

“Very stoked.” said the Dutchman, when asked for his feelings on the historic win. “I’m really proud of myself. I’ve worked hard for this. This is the biggest event in Europe, and winning it means a lot to me.”

“The French archery fans here are real fans, they like a great show and I hope I gave them that.”

After a tense first end, both Schloesser and Lutz settled, but Mike was absolutely on point, delivering back to back, inside-out tens – with Lutz lucky to get away with a few linecutters.

A clear nine from Lutz on his second shot of the third seemed to rattle the American, and it appeared he had lost the match in his head, sending down another at the end of the fourth and shaking his head before Mike closed it out.
